HYDERABAD, Oct. 31

THE International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) here has embarked upon a project to provide open distance learning (ODL) facility to poor communities in dry lands using information and communication technology (ICT).

The initiative is being implemented by Icrisat in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Rural Livelihood Project, the Indian Council for Agricultural Research, the Commonwealth of Learning and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University.

The project, according to Icrisat, primarily aims at empowering the residents of Addakal, a poor and vulnerable village in Andhra Pradesh, to cope with drought through ODL. It will share information and knowledge on crop-livestock management under rainfall and groundwater inadequacy.
