HYDERABAD, Oct. 29

TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) has lined up a range of solutions for e-governance applications building on the SmartGov framework.

The company is in talks with several State Governments, and the Sri Lankan Government and has showcased the potential to officials in the UK, including the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair.

The Global Head, S-Governance practice at TCS, Mr V. Chandrasekhar, said, ``the product suits most of the Commonwealth countries and needs some customisation. The UK and the Sri Lankan Governments, and in India the State Governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, have evinced interest in the SmartGov framework.''

"The SmartGov is a result of the domain expertise developed over a period of time by working closely with the Governments, especially of Andhra Pradesh and the inherent technology edge. This will be of great significance as we are talking to several State Governments for their e-governance initiatives.

"With SmartGov, the entire workflow management, knowledge management, security management and core central and department applications are covered. While enhancing the productivity by providing a mechanism for information and sharing experience, it facilitates in exploiting the networking for better communication. It will also help prioritise work," he said.

The S-Governance Practice under which the SmartGov project falls is a key focus area for the company and is aimed at making interactions between the Government and citizens (G2C), government and business (G2B) and the inter-governmental agencies more friendly, convenient, transparent and inexpensive.

The S-Governance practice has developed broad frameworks and products, which can be customised to the needs of any government or individual departments. TCS has already logged over 5,000 man-years of experience and developed products for tax administration, motor vehicle registration and licensing, public distribution system among host of other services.
