IT Training Dell to offer tech course in 8 Bangalore colleges Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Oct. 25 DELL International Services on Thursday announced a tie-up with eight educational institutions in Bangalore as part of its `Disha' programme. Mr Mohan S. Kharbanda, Vice-President, said that Disha was part of the Dell vision to reach out to communities. The eight institutes, including four engineering colleges - PES Institute of Technology, MVJ College of Engineering, RV College of Engineering and Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology - and four degree colleges, PES College, Christ College, Jyoti Nivas college and Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, will offer a 120-200 hour course in technical support. The course has been designed by Dell, which will also train the trainers in the colleges.Subjects covered will include digital electronics, microprocessors, personal computer evolution and overview, identification of interface cards and components and Dell specific computer operations. The course is open to final-year students, who will be awarded a Dell Technical Support Certification upon completion. The company will bear the costs of conducting the programme and the study material and the course will be completely free of charge for students. Mr Kharbanda said that the programme was not really geared towards recruitment by Dell.However, students taking the course could find jobs in the technical support industry."They will have a better knowledge of the IT industry and the industry will benefit from the talent pool created," he said. Worldwide, Dell has several education initiatives. However Disha is the one of its kind tailored for the Indian industry, according to him. "Bangalore has a large talent pool of tech-savvy programmers. The programme may help Karnataka realise its goal of one million tech professionals by 2010," he said.
