Centurion Bank take-over

This is with reference to the news item "Andhra Bank wants RBI to make good Centurion erosion" (Business Line, October 22).

I wonder why the Reserve Bank of India is after Andhra Bank to take over the loss-making Centurion Bank. Andhra Bank has just achieved capital adequacy with great difficulty.

Yet, its NPAs are much above the reasonable levels. It is not fair on the part of the RBI to pressurise PSBs into taking over loss-making banks in the private sector.

Also, there were news reports that the ICICI Bank has a high asset base. Then, why is the RBI not asking it to take over Centurion Bank?
