Automobiles SAE sees big role in India with chapter Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Oct. 19 THE Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), headquartered in the US, has announced the launch of its Indian chapter SAE India. It will be an autonomous body affiliated to SAE International. In line with SAE International, the Indian chapter will also provide support to the Indian automobile industry in areas of idea exchange, exposure to the latest technology, financial assistance, research support and creation of high calibre manpower. SAE India will have its headquarters in Chennai, in the present headquarters of the Institution of Automotive Engineers (IAE). With the formation of SAE India, IAE is proposed to be merged with SAE India. The organisation is expected to be financially independent within the next three to five years. Expressing happiness over the launch, Dr K. Kumar, the first President of the Indian chapter, said, "SAE India is slated to play a crucial role in the advancement of overall standards of the Indian automobile industry, towards the production of technically superior, more affordable and environment friendly vehicles." Present during the MoU signing ceremony, Dr S.M. Shahed, President, SAE International, said: "We have been following the Indian auto industry for the last few years and are impressed with the growth it has registered. We feel it is the best time to launch an Indian chapter of SAE as there is heightened activity in the sector, and SAE intends to make significant contribution to the overall development of Indian auto industry, similar to what it has done to industry in other countries." SAE is a member-driven organisation of more than 80,000 professionals in 90 countries around the world who share a common interest in advancing mobility technology to serve humanity.
