Outlook Info-Tech - Software Electronic Data bullish on PLM solutions Vishwanath Kulkarni
BANGALORE, Oct. 21 BACKED by a strong demand for its product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions from the automobile, industrial machinery and the defence sector, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) expects its PLM business in India to grow at over 20 per cent for the current year. "We are bullish and anticipate a substantial growth in India, the second fastest growing market along with Korea, after China in the Asia-Pacific region," said Mr Hans-Kurt Lubberstedt, President, EDS (PLM Solutions), Asia-Pacific. PLM forms the product information backbone for a company and its extended enterprise. EDS' PLM solutions span across areas of digital product design, digital simulation, digital manufacturing and collaboration. "The trend adopted by the automobile and consumer goods manufacturers to go in for indigenous product design and development has perked up the demand for the product life cycle management solutions over the last six to eight months," said Mr Narendar Reddy, President, EDS (PLM Solutions), India. In a bid to capitalise on this trend, EDS has sharpened its focus on specific verticals. "We are concentrating on verticals such as automobile, industrial machinery, defence and space," said Mr Reddy. EDS has set up a centre of excellence for the automobile segment to showcase its solutions and plans to have two more centres of excellence for the industrial machinery and the space sectors, by next quarter, he added. Last quarter EDS' PLM business in India saw a year-on-year growth of 25 per cent.
