Horticulture/Fruits & Vegetables Sweet potato varieties released Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Minister for Agriculture, Mr Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav, released two varieties of sweet potato at the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI). An official spokesman said that the vines of these short duration varieties, called Shree Arun and Shree Varun, were handed over to farmers from the Chenkal locality. Mr Yadav acknowledged that there was a rich volume of traditional knowhow and experience available with the farmers, which needed to be upgraded and modified. He called upon scientists to develop technologies suitable for deployment by poor farmers.
