Politics Industry & Economy - Natural Calamities Don't politicise drought, AP Minister tells Oppn Our Bureau
VIJAYAWADA, Oct. 8 THE Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh should refrain from politicising drought and instead appreciate and aid the efforts of the Government to tackle the situation, the Agriculture Minister, Mr V. Sobhanadreeswara Rao, told presspersons here on Tuesday. Responding to queries regarding the critical statements of the Congress leaders on the drought situation and the proposed demonstration of the CPM at the Prakasam barrage here on October 12, he said, "We are making all possible efforts to save the standing paddy crop on 1 million acres in the Krishna delta, even though the situation is critical and there are inflows in the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam reservoirs. We are seeing to it that 10,000 cusecs of water is being released at the Prakasam barrage here. By implementing rotation system and taking steps to use the water economically, we want to save the crop in the delta,'' he said. The Minister said Karnataka was impounding water at Almatti dam needlessly.
