Disinvestment Sell-off problems: Uma Bharti blames lack of communication Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Oct. 7 LACK of communication between the nodal Ministry in-charge of disinvestment of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and the concerned administrative Ministries has led to confusions and, as a result, controversies, according to the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Ms Uma Bharti. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, she said that "let me state clearly that I am in favour of disinvestment and it is the right decision at the right time. But the benefits of disinvestment have to reach the masses". Asked specifically what her views were on the ongoing disinvestment exercise that had generated a lot of heat within the Government, Ms Bharti came out in defence of the Disinvestment Minister, Mr Arun Shourie, saying that "he is the right man doing the right job". Ms Bharti, who is widely perceived to be close to the RSS school of thought said that "whatever I have to say on the ongoing disinvestment exercise, I will tell it in the proper forum, most probably in the Cabinet", and added that "there is no dirty linen". She also remained non-committal on queries relating to the Nalco disinvestment. The Minister, meanwhile, has received a cheque worth Rs 211.90 crore from the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) as dividend for the year ended March 2002.
