NEW DELHI, Sept. 24 THE US-based Portal Software, a provider of billing software, has said it is setting up a development centre in Bangalore as part of its strategy to expand its operations in India. Eyeing the rapid growth of telecom services in the country, Portal Software is also establishing a dedicated sales and marketing team in India, company officials said here at a press conference. "We are in the advanced stages of setting up an offshore development centre in Bangalore," said Mr John Tull, Vice-President and General Manager, Asia-Pacific of Portal Software. He refused to disclose more details about the centre, saying that the company would shortly make an announcement in this regard. The company has been supplying its billing software to Indian clients since 1997 and has seven customers in India, including Data Access and British Gas. "We will be focussing on convergent pre-paid and post-paid billing solutions for fixed and mobile service providers," Mr Tull said. "Although the overall business environment is difficult, we are glad to further invest and penetrate the Indian market. The appointment of the new country sales manager and the chief solutions architect reflects our strong commitment to the Indian telecom market," he said. Mr Shailendra K. Singh has been appointed the Country Manager for India and SAARC region, while Mr Ashwani Vachher is the Chief Solutions Architect.
