Central team visits areas hit by drought

COIMBATORE, Sept. 24

A TWO-MEMBER Central team today made a visit of some of the drought affected areas in Coimbatore district.

The team, consisting of Mr Joginder Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Mr R.P. Singh, Joint Director, Directorate of Cotton Development, visited Pollachi, Palladam and Udamalpet taluks to study the impact of the monsoon failure in the district.

The Principal Commissioner for Revenue Administration, Mr R. Santhanam, and the Coimbatore District Collector, Mr N. Muruganandam, accompanied the members of the Central team. Speaking to newspersons, Mr Joginder Singh said the team was assessing the extent of damage.
