Strategy Lifescan bid to promote glucose monitoring kit Sankar Radhakrishnan
CHENNAI, Sept. 23 LIFESCAN, the Johnson & Johnson group company that manufactures self-monitoring blood glucose devices, is to focus its promotional activities on continuing medical education for doctors, especially for general practitioners. Dr Chandrashekar S.P., General Manager and Country Head, LifeScan India, told Business Line this was in keeping with the company's belief in the need to focus on diabetes management. As the first step in this initiative, the company recently sponsored a training programme on diabetology organised by the American Diabetic Association and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. "The company will continue with its Patient Education Programmes where it interacts with diabetic patients and offers them updates on the latest developments in the treatment of diabetes," said Dr Chandrashekar. The company would also work with nurses in hospitals across the country and educate them on managing the special needs of diabetes patients, he added. It is also looking at launching a new variant of Smart Scan, its most recent offering in the blood glucose monitoring market, early next year. Simultaneously, it has also reworked its distribution strategy.
