`India emerging sourcing base for agro-chemicals'

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 21

INDIA, along with China, is emerging as a very attractive sourcing base for agro-chemical products due to the low cost of its products, ample production capacity, technical competency plus ability to deliver international standard quality.

This is the reason why many global players are now looking beyond the traditional suppliers based in the US and Europe, Mr Hans Elmsheuser, Head, Global Purchasing, Syngenta Crop Protection AG, Switzerland, said.

While addressing a session on agro-chemicals in the ongoing India-Chem 2002, he said that Syngenta is planning to increase its total purchases from Asia to $300 million by 2005, from the current level of $180 million. The primary reason for expansion in the products being sourced from India and China is the low-cost advantage.
