Conference to focus on impact of climate change

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 19

THE impact of climate change on hydro-power development, glacier recession, forestry and bio-diversity would be the focus of a conference on sustainable mountain development at Darjeeling.

The two-day conference is being organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, starting September 20. The conference comes in the wake of 2002 being the International Year of the Mountains.

Meanwhile, a 21-member national committee has also been constituted for preparation of an action plan.
