Announcements BILT's Sewa mill to add capacity Badal Sanyal
KOLKATA, Sept. 19 THE tight supply situation regarding writing and printing paper in the domestic market is likely to ease with additional production of this variety of paper from Ballarpur Industries Ltd's (BILT) Sewa paper mill in Orissa. A new paper-making machine at Sewa with an annual production capacity of 40,000 tonnes of cream-wove variety of paper is now ready to begin commercial production thereby enabling BILT to compensate the loss of production it had to suffer following the closing down of manufacturing operation at its Chowduar mill in Orissa. A BILT source confirmed on Thursday that the expansion programme at the company's Sewa unit was complete. The unit's paper making capacity has been raised from 40,000 to 80,000 per annum. Incidentally, the unit has adequate pulp making capacity to meet pulp requirement of making paper even up to 1,00,000 tonnes of paper per annum. The BILT source said that the company's total production would now be about 5,00,000 tonnes per annum, out of which coated paper contributes about 1,25,000 tonnes. Paperboards contributes about 60,000 tonnes, speciality paper contributes about 30,000 tonnes and the balance quantity would be writing and printing paper. Informed sources indicate that the BILT management has an ambitious plan for the Chowduar unit. It is understood that large-size paper making machines may be installed there replacing the existing old small-sized machines. However, it is indicated that BILT has plans to export about 50,000 tonnes of value-added paper during the current fiscal.
