Leverage IT for tourism growth: CII

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 8

A COMPREHENSIVE strategy by which the power of information technology can be leveraged for the development and growth of domestic tourism is the need of the hour, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said.

In a statement, the chamber has said that the domestic tourism industry is yet to wake up to the true potential of IT. "The tourism players in India have their presence in the Internet through their Web sites, but a concerted effort to enrich content, enhance interactivity with potential customers, regularly update data, is still missing," the chamber has said.

The chamber has pointed out that in future the interactive digital television (IDTV) technology is likely to emerge as the prime mover for holiday decisions.
