NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 THE Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has accorded techno-economic clearance to the 660-MW Sipat super thermal power station (Stage II) being set up in Chhattisgarh by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at an estimated current cost of Rs 2,350 crore which includes interest during construction (IDC) and financing charges. Stage I of the Sipat project comprising three units of 660 MW was given the clearance by CEA in January 2000. The project has been appraised by CEA on current cost basis. Like Stage I of the project, the coal requirement for Stage II is to be met from the nearby Dipka and Kushmunda mines of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. Synchronisation of the project has been planned for March 2007. The power generated by the Sipat project is to benefit the western region, namely, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgrah, Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Goa.
