Lufthansa Cargo to hike fuel surcharge

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 6

LUFTHANSA Cargo will be increasing the fuel surcharge from Euro 0.05 to Euro 0.1 per kg of actual freight weight from September 23.

For calculation of the surcharge, the logistics company in the Lufthansa group is following a method that was announced at the beginning of this year.

The method is valid throughout the entire Lufthansa cargo network worldwide and governs the introduction and increase, as well as the reduction or withdrawal of fuel surcharges based on a so-called `fuel prices index'.

According to the Lufthansa Cargo methodology, whenever the fuel price index exceeded the threshold of 135 points for two consecutive weeks, a surcharge of Euro 0.10 per kg of actual weight was imposed, a statement by the German carrier said.

In the last two weeks, the fuel price index had touched 138 and 142 points, respectively, the statement said. Furthermore, the German cargo carrier publishes the weekly fuel price index on the company's Web site (www.Lufthansa-cargo.com) .
