Indian juror for coffee contest

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: For the first time, an Indian has been invited to be a juror at the Cup of Excellence competition for developing gourmet coffee to be held in Brazil between October 21 and 28.

Ms Sunalini Menon, CEO, Coffee Lab, a private coffee-testing lab said that she was one among two from Asia, and the only one from a producing country. The other Asian is from Japan, a consuming country.

The competition is being sponsored by the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association. Started as an ICO program to develop gourmet coffee, the competition now involves Brazil, Gautemala and Nicaragua.

India's efforts to make a mark in the international coffee market are paying off. Earlier this year, an Indian barista won the award at an international competition in Oslo. —
