KOLKATA, Aug. 31

THE West Bengal Government is currently preparing an export promotion policy, according to the Industry Minister, Mr Nirupam Sen.

During last year or so, the West Bengal Government has prepared industry specific policies to attract investors to the State apart from the overall industrial policy and various incentive schemes.

Policies on biotechnology, information technology, mining and ITES (IT-enabled services) have already been announced. The export promotion policy is aimed at increasing industrial activity in the State geared to exports. "At present, we are building Manikanchan, the export park for gems and jewellery. Our export policy will be ready before the commissioning of this park'', Mr Sen told reporters after addressing the members of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The Minister spoke on the subject of `Prospects of economic development of West Bengal'.
