IT Training Birla Centre ties up with Italian varsity Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, Aug. 28 THE BM Birla Science Centre here and the University of Udine, Italy, have joined hands to offer a Masters in Information Technology course from this year. The course would be on a `distance education' model. About 20 students would be selected and will study at the Birla Centre. They will do an internship at the Udine University and get the certificate, according to Prof. Furio Honsell, its Vice-Chancellor. Interestingly, the Association of Industries of Udine has also expressed interest in associating itself with the course and also future initiatives in the areas of Information Technology, he told Business Line. The University of Udine already has a `distance doctorate' programme being co-ordinated by the Birla Science Centre. Two students from Andhra Pradesh have been selected with partial scholarship, according to Dr. B.G. Sidharth, Director-General of the Centre. The Birla Centre has been running computer courses and has also diversified into IT-enabled services with the establishment of a call centre recently. Udine comprises predominantly small and medium enterprises. Mr Peirantonio Salvador, delegate of the Association of Industries, said there was good scope for collaborative ventures with Indian companies, especially in the IT sector. Also the Managing Director of an IT solutions company called Eidon, Mr Salvador said, "We want to discuss with some of the enterprises in Hyderabad in the next couple of days". An Indo-Italian hydrology project which studied the pollution problems in the Patancheru industrial area dealing with the impact of human activities in highly populated areas on the quality of drinking water resources has been completed. Experts from Vienna and Hyderabad participated in the project.
