CHENNAI, Aug. 26

CONTINUING professional education will become mandatory for the members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) from January 1, 2003, according to its President, Mr Ashok Chandak.

He was delivering the keynote address at the launch of the Computerised Accounting and Auditing Techniques (CAAT) course by the institute.

The CAAT course is a technology application-based course, specifically designed for the members of the institute.

The objective is to enable chartered accountants to access databases beneath accounting software and enable them to create SQL queries, create reports, develop audit trails and create MIS reports. The service providers are NIIT, Aptech, SSI and First Computers.

Earlier speaking to presspersons, he said the institute had taken a number of steps to ensure that the goals of corporate governance were pursued to its fullest by the accounting fraternity.
