HYDERABAD, Aug. 15

SILKAir, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, will start operating direct flights to Hyderabad from October 30.

Initially, there will be flights on three days a week and the potential for growth is good, according to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Emirates Airline, which operates flights to Hyderabad daily, had also expressed willingness to extend the flight to Singapore in view of the growing traffic between Hyderabad and Singapore, Mr Naidu after his three-day trip to Singapore and Malaysia told presspersons.

Despite vast potential and increasing traffic flows in and out of Hyderabad, Mr Naidu said, "I had to put pressure on the Centre to get additional airlines operating on the sector.

<170>More pro-active policies under the `open skies' policy of the Centre need to be brought in".

The visit also resulted in key MoUs like the one between Jurong Consultants, an international project design and management company and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to jointly execute all future projects.

A gems and jewellery park to be set up by IOI of Malaysia under a joint venture with an Indian company and a Rs 100-crore agri-project with investments from PKPS Agri Corp of Malaysia in Kakinada under an MoU with the State Trading Corporation were also signed, he said.

To attract more investments from these two countries, the Chief Minister and the delegation showcased the proposed pharma city project in Visakhapatnam and also the scope for infrastructure development in the State.
