KSIDC signs pact with Bahrain firm for tourist village

KOCHI, Aug 13

KERALA State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has signed an MoU with Mahanami Hotels and Resorts of Bahrain to set up an international tourist village in the State.

Mr Jiji Thomson, Managing Director of KSIDC, signed the MoU on behalf of the corporation while Mr M.N. Satish, Director of Mahanami Hotels and Resorts, signed it on behalf of the foreign partner in the last week of June at Bahrain.

The Rs 33-crore project will constructed on an area of 24 acres at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district.

``This will be an exclusive tourism promotion venture in which the foreign promoter has shown an immense interest,'' Mr Venu Nallur, Executive Director of KSIDC, said.

The land is already under possession of the promoter and a detailed project proposal is awaited, he added.

The first joint Indo-Bahrain initiative in the sector, it proposes to establish a resort of international standards in the vicinity of Kochi.

Mohammed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau, an engineering consultancy firm based in Bahrain, has been appointed to design, plan and execute the project.

The spirit of the project is to create an international village by developing buildings of different architectural styles, depicting different regions and nations.

The complex will comprise studios and single and double bedroom dwelling units for long and short-term stays.
