Tur board takes off

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Tur Development Board has commenced functioning with its Managing Director, Dr T.R. Kamat, visiting Gulbarga, the headquarters of the new organisation.

He held discussions with the officials, farmers' representatives, bankers and representatives of agriculture research institutes on the functioning of the board. Gulbarga is a predominantly tur growing district in the State. The Board has been vested with the scope and reference to provide extensive supportive and incentive programmes for enhancing research and development activities in increasing productivity, exploring possibilities of tur processing with the adoption of the latest technology and making available required infrastructure facilities for growers and to stabilise prices in the open market.
