States such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh had availed of assistance under TUF while Karnataka was yet to seek any help, he said.

BANGALORE Aug 11

TWO of the four NTC Mills in Karnataka— Minerva and Yellamma Mills in Davangere — would be revived, while the other two in Mysore and Gulbarga would be shut down as per the recommendations of the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction, according to the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr Basangouda R. Patil

Talks on the revival of the two mills were on with the labour unions and the district administration, and a final rehabilitation plan would be ready by the month-end, Mr Patil said. Of the 119 NTC mills in the country, about 66 were being completely shut down and the machinery from these closed units were being relocated and shifted to the several of the existing mills, he said.

Mr Patil said that he had suggested that the State Government seek assistance under the Technology Upgradation Fund scheme to rehabilitate the Rabkavi Banahatti Spinning Mills.

He said the Textiles Ministry was contemplating providing rebate for handloom goods on the lines of rebate being provided to khadi. "We are still working out how much rebate should be provided - - 5 or 10 per cent," he said.

On the Rs 25,000 crore-TUF scheme for textiles sector, approvals for projects to the tune of nearly Rs 10,500 crore had been given, while nearly Rs 5,000 crore had already been disbursed, he said.

States such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh had availed of assistance while Karnataka was yet to seek any help, he said.

The State has been asked to submit a scheme to the Centre seeking assistance to strengthen and modernise the Karnataka Handlooms Development Corporation, he added.
