Accountants' role

It was a long-standing demand of the Cost and Works Accountants of India that they should be treated on a par with the Chartered Accountants.

The editorial, `At no cost' (Business Line, August 10) arguing against this, has rightly pointed out that if the cost accounting profession wants to be recognised on the same footing, then it must submit itself to the same process.

And in the present context of many accounting frauds coming to light, the role of Accountants is crucial. Could we expect a national accounting board to bring better results?
