Concern over poor use of road funds by States

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Aug. 10

THE Centre has expressed concern over the slow utilisation of Central Road Fund (CRF) corpus by the State governments.

"Funds allocated have not been utilised efficiently by the States. The matter has been taken up at the level of the Chief Ministers for effective utilisation of funds so that the users are benefited from improved roads," the Minister of State (independent charge) for Road Transport and Highways, Mr B.C. Khanduri, said at a meeting of the Parliamentary consultative committee here.

Under the revamped CRF, 1,333 proposals amounting to Rs 2,294 crore received from the States have been approved so far. "However, only Rs 882 crore has been released due to slow utilisation by the States," Mr Khanduri said.
