Dumping probe on IPA imports terminated

THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has terminated anti-dumping investigations on alleged dumping of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) from Singapore, the US, the European Union and China.
The move comes in the wake of a written petition from National Organic Chemical Industries Ltd (NOCIL) requesting the termination of anti-dumping probe on IPA imports from these four countries.
NOCIL, which is the sole producer of IPA in India, had in 2001 petitioned the Authority for an anti-dumping probe on IPA imports from Singapore, the US, the EU and China.
"As per the anti-dumping rules, the Authority can terminate investigations only on the basis of a written petition from the domestic industry which had sought the probe. In this case, NOCIL has withdrawn its original petition for an anti-dumping probe and therefore, the Authority has terminated the investigations," industry sources said. In fact, the Authority had in February 2002 recommended provisional anti-dumping duty, which had formed the basis for the Revenue Department to impose provisional anti-dumping duty.
