Alliances & Joint Ventures NRDC pact with IOC on energy-efficient tools Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Aug. 9 THE National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Faridabad-based Research & Development Centre of Indian Oil Corporation for the promotion and transfer of technology to various industries for a wide variety of energy-efficient appliances developed by the oil major. The introduction of the new appliances, according to a NRDC release here, would benefit people in the rural and remote areas, particularly the defence personnel stationed at high altitudes. The introduction of the different varieties of Nutan energy efficient commercial LPG burners, which conform to BIS specification, is expected to result in a minimum saving of LPG to the extent of 15 per cent. Similarly, the smokeless Nutan `himveer bukhari' which has been developed and field-tried this year has the potential of saving around 25 per cent of kerosene. The `bukhari' is utilised by defence personnel and others to keep warm in cold high altitude areas. According to estimates, there are about 100 million kerosene-based lamps of all types in the country, which consume about 7,500 million litres of kerosene annually. Considering a subsidy of Rs 4 per litre of kerosene, there is an annual expenditure of about Rs 1,000 crore.
