Chambers' plea on VAT

Our Bureau

BANGALORE, Aug 8

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (Karnataka chapter) and other trade and business representative organisations such as the Greater Mysore Chamber of Industry (GMCI) and Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) have said that while simultaneous implementation of the model VAT law was important, the States should also ensure that they do not resort to any new levies such as Octroi.

The industry organisations said that while the need for implementing VAT for economic development as well as improving competitiveness was well recognised by the Government, certain issues of concern should also get equal attention.
