Indair tops in IATA ranking

BANGALORE, Aug. 8

IF the growth of logistics companies is any indication of a vibrant trade, then the rankings given by IATA (International Air Transport Association) to leading companies have an encouraging tale to relate even amidst the long spell of economic downturn in the country.

The annual report on the status of various logistics companies for the year 2001 has put Indair, a Delhi-based Indian company at the top of the ranking. The subsequent three positions have been shared by another Indian company, Air Link (Delhi), and two multinational companies - Bax Global and Uti Worldwide (India). The ranking has been given on the basis of the turnover of the companies in the handling of airfreight for the year.

Indair, which maintains its top slot for the second consecutive year, has recorded a turnover of Rs 132.89 crore (Rs 121.69 crore). Uti Worldwide (India) has also made a creditable grade in the overall performance in the airfreight segment taking the fourth slot behind Bax Global.

Uti, however, had the distinction of being ranked the number one company among the multinationals followed by Bax Global, which took the third position after Air Link.

Bax Global, which occupied the second position last year with a turnover of Rs 117.63 crore, saw a dip in its revenue from Rs 102.45 crore and Uti, which lagged behind 14 companies last year with a revenue of Rs 52.07 crore saw a big jump in its revenue to Rs 69.42 crore during 2001.
