Cement majors report higher sales in July

MUMBAI, Aug. 5

CEMENT despatches have risen by 18.4 per cent at ACC in July this year to 10.77 lakh tonnes as against 9.09 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

Production was up 16.2 per cent at 11.03 lakh tonnes from 9.49 lakh tonnes. Cumulative production for the period between April and July 2002 rose 19 per cent to 47.15 lakh tonnes from 39.59 lakh tonnes in April-July 2001.

Gujarat Ambuja Cement reported a 69 per cent increase in despatches for the month at 7.37 lakh tonnes (4.36 lakh tonnes) and a 64 per cent increase in production at 7.23 lakh tonnes (4.4 lakh tonnes).

Group despatches, including those of Ambuja Cement Eastern and Ambuja Cement Rajasthan, rose 48 per cent to 8.96 lakh tonnes from 6.05 lakh tonnes.

L&T has reported a 31.4 per cent increase in despatches at 9.2 million tonnes (seven m.t.) and a 26.6 per cent increase in despatches at 9.5 m.t. (7.5 m.t.).

Grasim reported a 38.6 per cent increase in despatches at 9.93 lakh tonnes and a 32.93 per cent increase in production at 9.8 lakh tonnes.

Cumulative despatches for the period April to July increased 17.67 per cent at 40.38 lakh tonnes (34.32 lakh tonnes) and cumulative production rose 17.43 per cent at 40.38 lakh tonnes (34.39 lakh tonnes).
