Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Idea Cellular on Saturday announced it has tied up with Hutch and BPL aimed at offering reduced roaming airtime rates.

With this move, the airtime rate has been brought down to Rs 1.49 per minute as against Rs 3 per minute. Alongside, the roaming SMS charge of Rs 3 per message has also been dropped to Rs 1.49 per message. The reduced roaming rates will not only benefit Idea subscribers in all its circles, which are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, but also Hutch subscribers in Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat and Kolkata and BPL subscribers in Mumbai, Tamil Nadu (excluding Chennai), Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa.

The Chief Operating Officer of Idea Cellular Ltd, Mr S.K. Subramanian, said, ``in a country where telecom sector is growing rapidly making distances redundant, we see the new reduced roaming airtime rates and SMS rates playing a significant role in propelling roaming usage.''
