Probe into gas leak at RPG Life plant

PUNE, July 31

THE Director of Industries, Safety and Health has been appointed to investigate the gas leak at the RPG Life Sciences plant at Pimpri on Tuesday morning. The leak caused the death of an engineer and injured five others. The enquiry officer has been asked to submit his report within a couple of days.

Meanwhile an ex gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh is being given to the next of kin of the deceased, Mr Santhosh Sadawarte. An amount of Rs 25,000 will be given to the five injured.

The plant where the leak occurred is situated on the campus of Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd, which is currently on a manufacturing lease agreement to RPG Life Sciences. The leak had occurred at the beginning of the first shift at the plant. While the company has suspended all operations at the facility, senior management and technical experts from the company have already reached the location.
