Economy `Joint bilateral group must to spur industrial growth' Our Bureau
The Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, addressing `CEOs round table on capital goods' in the Capital on Monday.
NEW DELHI, July 29 THE Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, on Monday suggested the formation of a bilateral joint working group comprising the Government and industry for regular interaction to remove impediments to industrial growth. The Minister also advocated the setting up of a joint export cell, organising joint international seminars and ways of joint funding of research and development programmes. Interacting with the chief executive officers (CEOs) on a session on capital goods, the Minister felt that exports should be given a special boost by setting up of joint bilateral group and task forces in the industry. The interaction had been organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and was attended by 30 CEOs from a diverse cross-section of the industry including machine tools, electrical equipment, process plant and machinery, boilers, bulk material handling equipment and sugar machinery. The Minister further announced that issues relating to day-to-day activities with other ministries would be resolved by setting up an inter-ministerial co-ordination committee. Addressing the meeting, the Minister expressed concern over the low levels of investment in economy and suggested that large amount of investments were essential for the development and growth of the industry.
