Water Management Corporate - Announcements It's not just about the fizz Coke invests in rainwater harvesting Ajita Shashidhar
NEW DELHI, July 28 AS part of its social responsibility programme, Coca-Cola India has set up a rainwater harvest project in the Capital's Greater Kailash area. The company is planning to set up similar projects not only in other localities of Delhi but also in other parts of the country. Talking to Business Line, a Coke spokesperson said, "We do have rain-water harvesting projects at some of our locations, but we are planning to invest in it in a big way throughout the country." The decision to invest in these kinds of projects, according to the spokesperson, was taken on the basis of a survey conducted by ORG-Marg. "The perception evaluation survey showed a demand for support in primary health and education and rain-water harvesting." The Greater Kailash project will consist of four rainwater collection pits, including a rooftop pit. "This project comes under the Delhi Government's `Bhagidari scheme', which facilitates projects such as garbage disposal and water harvesting on request of the residents' welfare association. Coca-Cola is providing technical assistance for this project," said the spokesperson. Talking about the mileage the company would get out of this exercise, the company spokesperson said, "We are not doing this for mileage. This is going to be a part of our social responsibility programme and the project site will not even have a Coke signage." The company is also planning to go national with its primary education programme.
