CII to set up 3 task forces on farm issues

BANGALORE, July 25

THE Confederation of Indian Industry is planning to set up three task forces to advise the Government and deal with agriculture-related issues, said Mr Anand Mahindra, Vice-President, CII.

Task forces, being set up on agri inputs, supply chain management and food processing, are expected to go through the various studies that have already been carried out and come up with both long-term and short-term recommendations, he said. These task forces would act as an interface between the farmers and the Government, he added.

Farmers leaders including Mr Sharad Joshi of Shetkari Sanghatan in Maharashtra and Mr P. Chengal Reddy, President, Federations of Farmers Association in Andhra Pradesh, are other members of these task forces.

"The emphasis here would be on action and implementation of these recommendations," Mr Mahindra said, adding that the task forces are expected to pick up certain categories and focus only on those, he added.
