Krishna-led coffee team to meet PM

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, will lead a delegation of the coffee sector to meet the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in New Delhi on Friday.

The delegation, including the Karnataka Minister, Mr Chandre Gowda, the Assembly Speaker, Mr B.L. Shankar, UPASI President, Mr I.J.J. Rebello, and the Karnataka Planters Association Chairman, Mr A.S. Muthanna, will urge the Prime Minister for a relief package to help the coffee sector tide over the current crisis. Among other things, it will seek reduction of high interest burden.

The delegation will also call on the Finance Minister, Mr Jaswant Sigh, and apprise him of various issues affecting the sector.
