Unfair fare?

Two weeks after the apex fares of IA and Jet went into force, it seems the additional bookings are only around 7 per cent of their daily seat offerings.

Since the incremental revenue will be offset by the costs of fielding enquiries regarding eligibility, etc (which the Jet executive director calls "dilution" in his interview in Business Line, July 23), the net financial impact may be marginally positive.

However, since the reduced Route Navigation Facility Charge (RNCF) comes into effect in the third month of apex, the airlines will be able to show better bottomlines in August-October as they do not plan to pass on this reduction to passengers.

Let us hope the airline fares are fairer in future.
