NEW DELLHI, July 22

THE Union Textiles Minister, Mr Kashiram Rana, has asked the textile industry to enhance its competitiveness to grab a sizeable share in the $200-billion global trade.

Inaugurating the 29th India International Garment Fair here, he assured exporters that the Textiles Ministry would identify measures that would help enhance the export competitiveness of Indian textiles and clothing in the rapidly changing external environment, particularly in the context of the dismantling of quota regime in 2004.

The Minister of State for Textiles, Mr Basangouda R. Patil, urged exporters to achieve the export target of $15 billion for the textile sector for 2002-03.
