VSNL cuts rates up to 40 pc

MUMBAI, July 19

VIDESH Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has announced cuts of up to 40 per cent in its international long distance (ILD) tariffs.

The company's tariff rates for outgoing traffic to countries in the US have been sizeably reduced by over 40 per cent while those for countries in Europe, Africa and the Gulf have been reduced by around 25 per cent. The tariff rates for SAARC countries have been reduced by five per cent.

"These cuts have been made in order to provide the country with cost-effective quality international connectivity and enhance its value proposition to its customers in the competitive international long distance (ILD) market,'' VSNL said in a press release. These tariffs will be available through all major access providers both basic and cellular, including BSNL and MTNL.

The new rate for ISD calls for SAARC countries in the time slab of 0800-1900 hours is Rs 21.18 for one minute against the old rate of Rs 22.80.

For countries in Africa, Asia, Gulf and Oceania and those in Europe, the rate has fallen from Rs 32.40 to Rs 24 . For countries in American continent, it has been cut from Rs 40.80 to Rs 24 .
