TRF, Samsung join hands

Santanu Sanyal

KOLKATA, July 18

TRF Ltd, a Tata enterprise, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea for securing technology and other support in the manufacture of container and RTG cranes used in port operations. The MoU was signed in Korea a few days ago.

According to the MoU, the Korean firm will supply the technology and necessary equipment and also provide the performance guarantees for the equipment to be manufactured and supplied by TRF.

"We have agreed to work jointly for projects in India and neighbouring countries'', a spokesman for TRF told Business Line.

Earlier, TRF had a technology tie-up with MAN of Germany. The tenure of the agreement with the German firm, which was valid for 10 years, expired nearly five years ago.

With the technological and other support from the Korean firm, TRF is bidding for at least two tenders.
