Intelligence unit to check funding of terrorists

NEW DELHI, July 17

INDIA today said that it has set up a financial intelligence unit (FIU) to check the menace of funding terrorists. The unit, to be headed by the Revenue Secretary, will coordinate amongst various intelligence agencies of the country and global organisations to close in the gaps in information flow regarding the financing of terrorism.

This was one of the major items deliberated upon in the two-day G 20 Deputies meeting chaired by the Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Mr C. M. Vasudev.

Mr Vasudev told reporters that the action plan on terrorist financing would be one of the main items of the agenda of G 20 Ministerial meeting to be held here in November.
