Tourism KUIDC to fund 2 tourism infrastructure projects Our Bureau
BANGALORE, July 17 WITH the State Government agreeing to provide guarantee for loans raised for building tourism infrastructure, three properties with thematic focus on period and adventure sports are slated to be ready by next year. While two of them are being developed in Uttara Kannada, the third one is being built on the Om Beach near Gokarna at an aggregate cost of more than Rs 5 crore. The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (KUIDC) will be extending financial assistance for the two projects at Uttara Kannada. Giving details, Mr A.K. Verma, Managing Director, Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd, said the Centre has also sanctioned a project to be set up at Savandurga near Bangalore to be developed as adventure and nature camp and a house-boat resort project on the river Sharavati. Mr Verma, who has been recently given a new assignment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Lake Development Authority, said as part of the Uttar Kannada project properties that have been identified include Sadhashiv Ghad Fort property at Karwar and Magod Falls Adventure Sports centre. The work on the former is in the final stages and is expected to be operational this year before the commencement of the tourism season. Karnataka, which boasts of a variety of attractions along its coast and forests, has been lagging behind in tourism compared to frontline States like Maharashtra and Delhi. However, with such additional infrastructure, the Government hopes to attract more visitors. Jungle Lodges, an autonomous undertaking, which will be implementing the projects will also undertake the responsibility of developing eco-tourism projects to be promoted by the Jog Development Authority. The renewed efforts by the Government through Jungle Lodges come in the wake of Bangalore being chosen as the new gateway by four international airlines Royal Nepal Airline, Malaysian Airline, Lufthansa and lately SriLankan Airlines. "We see new business opportunities coming with these international airlines commencing operations from here," Mr Verma said.
