Failed monsoon

The editorial `Monsoon let-down' (Business Line, July 17) reflects the worry of the farmers and the people. The Centre and States have to start implementing contingency plans without delay. While some parts of the country are suffering from floods, others are facing the threat of drought. There should be some long-term plan to match them by linking rivers and other water management schemes so that both problems can be solved?

As pointed out in the editorial, a holistic and sustainable approach is essential. And our Public Distribution System (PDS) should also be kept intact to meet any eventuality, if needed.
