Foreign Trade CII chief on UK mission to restore confidence Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, July 15 THE President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr Ashok Soota, is leading an 18-member delegation to the UK to restore confidence of the business traveller in India's investment climate. In a statement, the chamber has said that the delegation will also try and convey the message to the world and the UK that it is business as usual in India. The Chief Executive Officers' delegation (CEO) is scheduled to meet with senior representatives of the UK administration, India's Labour friends and brief them on the latest situation in India and urge them to bring back on track the bilateral economic relations. During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet with the Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Stephen Trimms and the Minister for Small Businesses, Mr Nigel Griffths, among others. Another objective of the delegation will be to explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries, enhance and strengthen trade and investment relations as well as promote joint Indo-UK efforts to tap the hidden potential in the EU market. While promoting new investors in India and the UK, the team will focus on the emerging growth areas such as biotechnology, entertainment, research and development, healthcare and communications. The delegation will also participate in the Indo-UK economic conference, which is scheduled to take place in London on Tuesday, the aim of which is to enable Indian and British business leaders, together with economic experts and Government policy makers to discuss the prospects for the global economy. Members of the delegation include the Chairman, Infosys, Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, the Managing Director, Lazard, U.K. Mr Udayan Bose, the Managing Director, Sundaram-Clayton, Mr Venu Srinivasan, and the Executive Vice-President, TCS, Mr S. Mahalingam.
