Announcements Variety - Health Lasik facility at CDR hospital Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, July 12 CDR, the Hyderabad-based corporate hospital, has introduced the laser eyesight correction facility called Lasik, which uses ultraviolet radiation. The Rs 2 crore-equipment has been imported from Schwind of Germany through Wipro Biomed, the India distributor, according to Dr C. Dayakar Reddy, Chairman of CDR. Lasik laser eye surgery is an established method in most developed nations. The facility as well as the expertise are available at leading hospitals in the country. Basic eyesight problems can be corrected with best results for people in the 20-40 year group, said Dr T. Balchender, ophthalmologist at CDR. The difference that CDR claims to make is in bringing this facility at comparatively low costs. "We will do the surgery in both eyes for Rs 24,000, while the cost is around Rs 40,000 elsewhere," Dr Dayakar Reddy said. The Lasik (laser in-situ keratomileusis) procedure offers the advantage of correcting errors not just associated with the cornea of the eye but the entire optic track, thereby providing better vision to the patient, Dr Balchender told presspersons on Friday. In this method the eye surgeon creates and lifts a thin layer of tissue from the front surface of the cornea and uses excimer laser to gently sculpt the corneal tissue to correct the vision. Once this is done, the tissue is replaced. The entire operation would take about 30 minutes, he said.
