Coconut & Copra CCEA nod for copra MSP Our Bureau
NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the minimum support price (MSP) for copra for the 2002 season. For the fair average quality, the MSP will be maintained at Rs 3,300 per quintal for "milling'' copra and Rs 3,550 per quintal for "ball'' copra as recommended by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices. According to an official spokesperson, this step has been taken to safeguard the interest of copra growers and to protect them from distress sales through assured prices at remunerative levels. The CCEA also approved the proposal to continue with the system of purchase of jute bags through DGS&D at prices fixed on the basis of Tariff Commission. It further authorised the Ministry of Textiles to approve modifications suggested by the Tariff commission in the price adjustment/fixation formula.
