AP: Export target fixed at Rs 1,500 cr

VISAKHAPATNAM, July 8
THE package of incentives and concessions being offered by the Andhra Pradesh Government to export-oriented units (EOUs) has helped increase exports last fiscal.
Ms K. Ratna Prabha, Development Commissioner of Vizag Export Processing Zone, told presspersons that exports from State increased from Rs 752 crore in 2000-01 to Rs 1,247 crore last fiscal, with Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy's Laboratories contributing Rs 500 crore.
Granite, textiles, drugs, pharmaceuticals and coffee are the major export products. She said the export target fixed by the State Government for the current fiscal was Rs 1,500 crore.
On VEPZ, Ms Ratna Prabha said exports from the zone increased from Rs 219.11 crore in 2000-01 to Rs 253.02 crore last fiscal.
According to her, for the first time in the country, the VEPZ was in the process of introducing on-line communication system for granting permissions and approvals, including those for new units. "
